Awarding Process

Scholarship awards are based primarily on financial need, the potential for completing a health career program, sincerity of personal statement, and availability of scholarship funds for the applicant. Funds are awarded to residents of southwest Virginia who attend a college or university in the state of Virginia. Students will be notified by email whether granted or denied.

 

Application Instructions

All applications and supporting documents must be completed and emailed on or before Saturday, April 15, 2023. Only 2023-2024 applications found on the scholarship website https://hfscholarships.azurewebsites.net will be accepted.

 

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

· Has a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a scale of 4.0

· Is enrolled in or has been accepted to a college or university for the 2023-2024 academic year

· Has a financial need

· Plans to attend school in the state of Virginia

· Has completed all prerequisite courses required for their degree

· Maintains a permanent residence in one of the following counties:

Albemarle, Alleghany, Amherst, Appomattox, Augusta, Bath, Bedford, Bland, Botetourt, Buchanan, Campbell, Carroll, Craig, Dickenson, Floyd, Franklin, Giles, Grayson, Halifax, Henry, Highland, Lee, Montgomery, Nelson, Patrick, Pittsylvania, Pulaski, Roanoke City & County, Rockbridge, Rockingham, Russell, Salem City, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, Wise, Wythe

· Is motivated to achieve their education and career goals

Award payments are mailed directly to the college or university. Scholarships may be used for tuition, books, uniforms and miscellaneous fees, but not for room and board.
